Violin Stefano Pagliani

Student of Paolo Borciani (Italian quartet), he obtained his degree at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Milan Conservatory in 1983.

He continued his studies with Franco Gulli and Salvatore Accardo (Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and Accademia Stauffer in Cremona).

In 1986 he was chosen by master Zabin Metha to be the first solo violin for the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and he worked from 1990 to 2000 as first solo violin at La Scala Theatre Orchestra. He also worked at the homonymous Philharmonic Orchestra, appearing in the Sony Classical recordings made by the Theatre. In particular, he played as a soloist in the solos of
Rota "La Strada", G. Verdi "I Lombardi" with Riccardo Muti as conductor.

He recorded for EMI (Vivaldi, Pergolesi), Arcadia, Agorà, Dynamic, Tactus, Fonit Cetra (complete sonatas by Brahms ,Schumann, Ravel, Prokofiev, Respighi) complete string trios of Beethoven, Octet op. 20 by Mendelssohn, The Gran Duo concertante by Bottesini, "Estro armonico" and "Quattro Stagioni" by Vivaldi , Donizetti concert for violin, cello and orchestra, Beethoven Violin Concerto in D major op. 61, Saint-Saens Violin Concert No. 3 in B minor, Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor, Piazzolla "Le Quattro Stagioni".

Founder of "Trio d’archi della Scala", "i Virtuosi Italiani" , "i Solisti della Scala" and "l’Ensemble Filarmonico Italiano".

A regular host of the most important international festivals. His latest concert tours have been organised in the US and Canada (2004), China, Korea and Taiwan (2005). Finally, he has played as a soloist and conductor in Japan and South America.

In August 2007 he took part in the “Opening Lucerne Festival Concert”, by playing Ligeti’s and Bartok’s compositions as a soloist in the Konzerthall “KKL”.

Described by Lorin Maazel as "the most prominent concertmaster in Italy", during the opening of seasons, tape recordings and concert tours he has been a host as konzertmeister in the most prestigious theatres in Italy and abroad since 2000: Orchestra di S.Cecilia Roma, Maggio Musicale fiorentino, Teatro la Fenice Venezia , Teatro dal Verme Milano, The Valencia Orchestra, The Beijing Opera House.

At master Claudio Abbado’s invitation he’s also part of the Lucerne Philharmonic Orchestra, formed by the first chairs of the best European orchestras: Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam, Dresden etc.

In 2008 and 2009 he recorded his concert for violin and orchestra by Ciaikowsky and the Chausson Poeme as a soloist.

In 2009 he conducted works of Verdi, Rossini, Puccini at the Performing Arts Center in Beijing and other works of Verdi at the KKL in Lucerne.

For 2012 and 2013, he’s planning on conducting works of Donizetti and Puccini and doing concert tours as a conductor and soloist in China (Shangai, Canton, Beijing) and South America (Brazil and Mexico).

He is currently a violin teacher at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and also Music Director of the Artist International Music and Dance Association in Toronto.
